Sansui: 'Sound Thinking'
The name ‘Sansui’ literally means ‘Mountain and Water’, and is the term used to describe an exquisite form of ancient Japanese black ink drawings. The inherent meanings of strength and simplicity within the art form has be an influence on almost all Japanese culture, including the Sansui philosophy. Since being founded by Mr Khosaku Kikuchi in 1944, the Sansui brand has been firmly associated with strength, simplicity and a deep understanding of the value of life.

From humble beginnings as a transformer company in the 1940s, by 1965 Sansui had developed into one of the world’s foremost manufacturers of tube amplifiers and receivers; a position that was affirmed by the phenomenal AU-111 tube-based integrated amplifier. The AU-111 was first built in 1965 and production ran well into the 1970s; the model was so popular that it was re-issued in two further varieties in 1999 and 2001.
The AU-111 represents the pinnacle of Sansui’s history, but well into the 21st century the brand continues to exist, and the product range continues to represent the principles that Mr Kikuchi began with decades ago. In 2012, Sansui can still guarantee a strong and simple to use product, with all the benefits associated with modern technology, but at a realistic price with a core focus on sound quality.
